THE ROYAL ENFIELD SENSORY OVERLOAD; SEE THE HIMALAYAS ON A CLASSIC BIKE

Royal Enfield India

If there is one dream that almost all motorbike enthusiasts share it must be cruising through the Himalayas, both Nepal and India, on the famous Royal Enfield motorbike. For more than a century, this distinct motorcycle has turned big men into small children when hearing its bullet like sound and seeing its seductive looks.  What can we say?  ‘The TfT Royal Enfield’ is a sensory overload; the sights and smells experienced travelling across a country on a Royal Enfield motorbike are truly exquisite!

The Royal Enfield is quintessentially British, with the bikes originally being heavily used in World War 1. Since then, they have been sought after worldwide, with a factory opening in India in 1957 for full-fledged production. TfT Travel has partnered up with a Nepalese, Indian and Sri Lankan fleet to form what could only be classed as the coolest travel experience in Asia – a combination of Himalayas, mountain foothills and Jungles all seen on a classic British motorcycle.

Your Himalayan Royal Enfield motorcycle tour begins in a bustling Asian city, centrally located in Nepal, India and Sri Lanka giving you plenty of options depending on what you would like to see and experience. No matter if you have little or decades of motor biking experience, we arrange trips for everyone. Since safety and comfort are our priority, there will be support vehicles and mechanics on hand to guide you through the mountain passes, steep gullies and incredible scenery. Our motorbike tours are something that will ensure you to bring home a thrilling and adventurous experience that will remain with you for a lifetime.

EXPEDITION OVERVIEW
Day 1

Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport Kathmandu, where our TfT Travel staff will greet you and arrange your transfer to the domestic airport for your flight to the second biggest city in Nepal, Pokhara. Relax by the pool or enjoy a massage before embarking on the ride of your life tomorrow.

The coming two nights you will be spending at the Temple Tree Resort and Spa on a B/B basis.

Day 2

After a punctual start and a spot of breakfast, meet the team at the Motorcycle Club. They will promptly introduce you to your new toy for the next week. The rest of the day is reserved for intense motorbike training and briefing by the guides at their workshop in Pokhara. Learn the ins and outs of handling your Royal Enfield Bullet and receive all-important training on road conditions and laws in Nepal. Did you know that the Royal Enfield’s gear change is opposite to that of most motorbikes in Europe?!

Day 3

After yesterday’s preparation, the journey begins with an early departure from lakeside. You will be accompanied by a motorbike guide, mechanic and support staff. Head off through the breathtaking morning mountains of the Annapurnas as you begin your ride west. Pass through different towns, spend the day on the road exploring villages and take in life in Nepal’s Terai; endless rice fields, long winding turns, blue skies and, no doubt, a colourful sunset.

The coming three nights you will be overnight camping on a full board basis.

Day 4 and 5

The coming two days are the ultimate outdoor bikers trip as we take the less travelled roads from the Terai to western Nepal. Write your own itinerary as you explore untouched wilderness areas with full support along the way. If you head out in the beginning of autumn the countryside will be magic with rice paddies ready for the second harvest of the year.

On day 5 we will be cruising further west along the infamous Mahendranagar highway.

Day 6

Today is an early start as we watch morning come to life in the Terai. After breakfast the journey continues west to Tiger Tops Karnali Lodge. En route cross the Babai River and spot Marsh Mugger crocodiles sunbathing on shore. The coming three nights will be on a full board stay at Tiger Tops Karnali Lodge.

Upon arriving at Tiger Tops Karnali Lodge, you will be whisked into a world of comfort and relaxation admits the rawness of the jungle. Take a hot shower warmed by the power of compost heating, swing in a hammock under the trees, or plan the coming days adventures relaxing on the balcony day beds. Dinner will be a sumptuous blend of fusion cuisine served in the GholGharr (Nepalese dining room), where late night chats over a night cap are a common occurrence.

Day 7

One of the most popular activities at Karnali Lodge is the elephant encounter. Spend a day with the elephant keepers, locally known as mahouts, and watch daily life at the elephant camp unfold. Help prepare the 150 kilograms of feed each elephant requires each day, head down to the river to watch the elephant bathing, and take an afternoon stroll through the villages and community forest.

Day 8

Today you will head back east to the sister property of Karnali, Tiger Tops Tharu lodge. The journey can take up to 10 hours, so get the driving gloves on and enjoy the colors of Nepal. You will pass through the very sacred birthplace town of Buddha, Lumbini. Tharu Lodge itself is situated on the edge of Chitwan National Park, and from here it is a short hop by plane back to Kathmandu from Bharatpur.

Day 9

After lunch you will head to Nepalgunj for your afternoon flight back to Kathmandu. On arrival you will be transferred back to Swotha House, in the southern part of Kathmandu, a small but charming, family-owned boutique property where you will be spending your last night on a B/B basis.
